Millennium Point Celebrates Success

Sir Bernard Zissman, Chairman of Millennium Point Trust, has announced yet another successful year of profitable operation for the flagship development. Speaking at the Millennium Point annual general meeting last week, Sir Bernard commented “Millennium Point is going from strength to strength, and we the board are looking forward to progressing and building its position within the city. We are very proud to boast an impressive team of trustees, who are supporting the development of Millennium Point as the hub of science, business and learning in Birmingham.”

In 2008/09 Millennium Point welcomed well in excess of 1M visitors and generated a surplus of £1.2M, enabling the Trust to fulfil one of its original key objectives to provide support for the two founding charitable trusts, Thinktank and Birmingham City University’s Faculty of Technology, Engineering and the Environment.

Earlier in 2009 former Director General of the CBI and Government Minister, Lord Jones of Birmingham, David Waller, former Regional Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers and Jog Hundle, Partner at Mills & Reeve LLP joined the Millennium Point Board, adding their wealth of experience and business acumen to the team. The Board of Trustees for Millennium Point Trust also includes; Richard Green, Mark Swallow, Prof. David Tidmarsh, Richard Spilsbury, Cllr Len Clark, Cllr Ian Ward and Cllr Martin Mullaney.

Millennium Point is not the only organisation to be celebrating its business success, with attractions onsite also experiencing a bumper year. Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum based within Millennium Point attracted record-breaking visitor numbers over the summer months, with the BBC Walking With Dinosaurs Exhibition proving to be a massive draw for local families. Plus, throughout 2009 the IMAX Cinema also on site has welcomed a staggering 123,693 customers to date.
