Introducing the newest face of the Events & Programming team, Alex Bamford. Alex has joined us as Events & Operations Assistant and invites us to find a little more about her.

Tell us what you do on a day-to-day basis?
I assist the events team with the planning and set-up for the eclectic range of events, exhibitions and conferences we host here at Millennium Point.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?
I really enjoy the variation of events. One week, we have the Sikh Society from BCU setting up a community kitchen in The Atrium, and the next we have a Beatfreeks poetry slam discussing the EU referendum. It’s great to see visitors from across Birmingham discovering great content in our event spaces.

Describe Millennium Point in three words.
Fun, friendly and exciting.

Favourite place to grab a bite to eat in Birmingham.
I have lots of favourite places to eat depending on what I fancy. My favourite food is Japanese so I’m going with Yakinori in Grand Central. It makes the best bento boxes in Birmingham.

What is your greatest achievement/what are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of completing my masters last year in Event and Venue Management whilst I was working. It was a tough year but it was definitely worth it in the end.

If you had to choose one country to visit in 2016, where would you go and why?
I would love to visit Australia - it just looks amazing. If I was ever fortunate enough to visit, I would also love to spend some time exploring the surrounding countries like Thailand and the Philippines.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I really enjoy going to gigs so any genre of music is fine by me, as long as I don’t have to sit in a seat. I’m also blessed with being surrounded by some wonderful people, so enjoying time with my family, boyfriend and friends is my favourite way to spend the weekends.

What’s your favourite book/film and why?
I love comedies and chick flicks - it’s always been a battle between Mean Girls and Clueless. I’m also a massive fan of Harry Potter, both the books and the films!

Favourite thing about Eastside?
My favourite part of Eastside is Eastside Park. It has so much opportunity for holding some truly spectacular events. The Rugby World Cup Final was shown here last year on the big screens, and the atmosphere was great. Hopefully, there will be lots more activity in the park over the summer.

Name one thing you want to accomplish in 2016.
In 2016, I would love to continue my passion for jewellery making. There are some lovely jewellery courses in the Jewellery Quarter, and I would like to attend a few courses and learn some new skills. I would also like to stick with the gym for longer than two months.
