Millennium Point's Head of Facilities sits down with us to allow you to find out more about the work of him and his team.

Tell me what you do on a day-to-day basis?

I manage the day-to-day running of Millennium Point, a 500,000 sq ft building which has an annual footfall of one million visitors.

I directly manage a team of four people and indirectly approximately 40 contractors and consultants. This includes security, cleaning, maintenance, health and safety and capital works. I also deal with our tenants which include BCU, Thinktank, BMET, Unitemps and Six Eight Kafé.

Can you tell us about a recent project that you’ve worked on and how it has benefited Millennium Point?

The most recent and significant project has been replacing the three chillers. This has improved the temperatures within the building, and at the same time, helped reduce the energy consumption due to the latest technology.

I have also carried out a refurbishment of The Atrium lifts which have improved the quality and reduced the number of breakdowns. Chilled water pipework has also been replaced across several floors and the tenant’s exit, all enabling Millennium point to be a great building.

Describe Millennium Point in three words.

Dynamic, fun and unique!

Where’s your favourite place to eat in Birmingham?

Jamie’s Italian Restaurant in Bullring – the food tastes amazing and I love that it offers a selection of hot chillies to eat with your food.

What is your greatest achievement/what are you most proud of?

Having the opportunity to create the facilities management and estates strategy, and revamping the service delivery for Millennium Point have been my greatest achievements. The biggest impacts have been an improved level of service to the tenants, a plan for investment to the building, and overall cost savings with improved contractor service level agreements.

Most inspiring place you’ve ever visited?

Venice – it’s an amazing place for history, food and canals.

Who is your role model?

Alan Sugar. He has worked hard to become very successful and doesn’t take any prisoners.

Favourite thing about Eastside?

Millennium Point of course - what a great building in the heart of Eastside. Eastside has had a lot of investment over the years and is an exciting place to be. With the HS2 coming to us in the near future, it will totally transform Eastside, bringing with it some great opportunities.

What are you most looking forward to this year? (In work and in the city)

Delivering the capital strategy alongside some exciting projects taking place at Millennium Point. Watch this space!

Name one thing you want to accomplish at Millennium Point in 2016.
