Devised in 2011, Picture This…is a combined arts project integrating photography and life writing to empower young people to consider how they might achieve their ambitions in the future.

Using cameras to represent life and story to authenticate their sense of self, pupils participated in a series of creative workshops based around the themes of aspiration, inspiration and motivation.

The project is led by local artist SHARON CORBETT of PINGO ART and funded, supported and hosted by Birmingham City University as part of the Aimhigher West Midlands National Networks for Collaborative Outreach.

The current project involves 60 pupils aged 9-11 from 5 local Birmingham schools:  GOSSEY LANE, JUNIOR INFANT AND NURSERY SCHOOL, KITTS GREEN; BROWNMEAD PRIMARY ACADEMY, SHARD END; HILLSTONE PRIMARY SCHOOL, SHARD END; TIMBERLEY ACADEMY, SHARD END and THE OVAL PRIMARY SCHOOL, YARDLEY.

Sharon Corbett, a former graduate of Keele University and a previous social worker, has been working as PINGO ART since 2005.  She delivers well-being workshops to business and community groups, as well as working with schools, colleges and universities on projects to develop self confidence, self worth and self belief.

Photographs and stories will be displayed as framed poster prints until 20 July.
