Ben Falk & Josiah Newbolt) 2009, UK – 3 mins Welcome to our city - to our world - of books. This is where we live. Beautiful stop-motion film of a world made out of books. Produced for the 4th Estate Publishers' 25th Anniversary. The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore (dir. William Joyce & Brandon Oldenburg) 2011, US – 15 mins After a hurricane levels his city, a young man wanders into a mysterious library where books literally come to life. En Sortant de L'ecole (dir. Lila Peuscet) 2014, France – 3 mins Based on Jacques Prévert’s poem of the same name, this beautiful animation sees a pair of children and a group of birds going on a journey together. Peuscet’s hand-made sets are a marvel. The Lost Thing (dir. Shaun Tan and Andrew Ruhemann) 2010, Australia – 16 mins A boy discovers a bizarre looking creature while out collecting bottle tops at the beach. Having guessed it is lost, he tries to find out who owns it or where it belongs but is met with indifference from everyone else who barely notice its presence. Adapted from Shaun Tan’s book, The Lost Thing won the Academy Award for best animated short film in 2011. Next (dir. Barry Purves) 1990, UK – 6 mins William Shakespeare without saying a word gives a quick run through of all his plays in a very special audition. Book on Books (dir. Lei Lei) 2015, China – 7 mins Chinese Animator Lei Lei uses cutout patterns from his father’s book collection to produce his vibrant collage-based animations. Booking for this event has now closed.
