Millennium Point achieves Gold sustainability certification from ECOsmart by Greengage
Millennium Point has achieved Gold certification from ECOsmart by Greengage, the sustainability benchmark used across the hospitality, business travel and events industries to measure environmental and social performance against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The Birmingham venue scored 71% overall across six assessment areas, a rise of 26 percentage points on its previous submission of 45%. The Gold award is valid from 13 July 2026 to 12 July 2027, following a virtual review carried out by ECOSmart Auditors.
Food and beverage led the way with a score of 97%, reflecting the venue’s use of fair trade and ethically sourced coffee and tea alongside locally produced beverages. Rooms and facilities management followed at 83%, driven by a move away from chemical cleaning products in favour of eco-friendly alternatives, and corporate social responsibility scored 80%, underpinned by the venue’s Net Zero plans and ongoing support for the local community.
Every category improved on the previous assessment, with corporate social responsibility up 44 percentage points and rooms and facilities management up 35. Waste management and recycling also scored strongly at 65%, supported by the venue’s certified Zero Waste to Landfill status.
Rebecca Delmore, Commercial Director at Millennium Point, said: “Going from 45% to 71% in one year shows how much progress our teams have made, particularly around waste, cleaning and our catering partnership with AC Catering. There’s more to do, but the Gold award is a good marker of where we’ve got to.”
Millennium Point continues to work towards further improvements, including their net zero plan which includes slowly reducing the reliance on the central water plant in favour of local supply. The first of these projects are already underway and planned to be complete by the end of September 2026.
