Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, a modern spin on the romantic tragedy

Did my heart love ‘till now? Forswear its sight. For I never saw true beauty till this night.

Baz Luhrmann helped adapt this classic Shakespearean romantic tragedy for the screen, updating the setting to a post-modern city named Verona Beach. In this version, the Capulets and the Montagues are two rival gangs. Juliet (Claire Danes) is attending a costume ball thrown by her parents. Her father Fulgencio Capulet (Paul Sorvino) has arranged her marriage to the boorish Paris (Paul Rudd) as part of a strategic investment plan. Romeo attends the masked ball and he and Juliet fall in love.

Certificate: PG-13 | Running Time: 2 hours

What you get with your ticket

Tickets are £20 (plus fees) per person. Tickets can be purchased in groups of two or four only. Each pair of tickets will include a complimentary bottle of chilled prosecco to enjoy during the film.

A trip to Millennium Point is not to missed

Last year we have had lots of amazing events take place in our landmark building. With plenty to offer, make Millennium Point your place to go to this year.

Are you a fan of films? Dirty Dancing Revellers had the time of their lives with cocktails and entertainment in our much-loved Auditorium. Following on from the success of Dirty Dancing, we reached for the sky, where guests experienced the epic musical story of Elton John in Rocketman, with 5 delicious wines that were given out for all to enjoy. For a festive treat, we showed the modern classic Christmas movie, Love Actually. Visitors sat back to watch the film, along with a few glasses of festive cheer (wine) and some movie trivia presented by the charming movie geeks The Wine Events Company.

In December, we just couldn’t stop talking about our spectacular 39ft Christmas Tree, we even put some fir-tastic facts together. It was great to see our multi-award-winning building come to life with lots of visitors enjoying the festivities.

Also at Millennium Point is the home of authentic Italian food experts Mulino’s Café, based on level 2. Here you will find the delicious pizzas, bakery items and more, why not grab a bite when visiting?

Fancy going on a scientific journey of discovery? Plan a visit to the award-winning Thinktank Science Museum, don’t forget to visit their science garden!

Feelings of awe, an understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment.

With Christmas Day just over a month away, we just can’t stop talking about our spectacular 39ft tree! That’s why we’ve put together some fir-tastic facts together about our decorations.

The Christmas tree is based in our event space Atrium for everyone to enjoy as soon as they walk into our landmark building.

It’s starting to look a lot like CHRISTMAS

The tree built was put together by Christmas experts The Christmas Decorators. It takes a team of 5 installers and a team of 7 decorators, to prepare the branches and baubles. The Christmas tree takes around 10 hours to complete. With good reason too as there are over 21,000 lights and 1,500 baubles to set up!

Where do you even get a 39ft tree from you ask? We’ll let you in on a secret, it’s not actually a real tree! The Christmas tree is made up of a metal frame with each individual branch attached separately each with their own power source.

As far as we know we are the biggest indoor tree in Birmingham at 12 metres tall. It’s also accompanied by two nutcrackers and a (currently) nameless bear giving visitors lot of opportunities to snap a festive selfie.

Excited to share the Christmas Tree with everyone

We wanted everyone to enjoy our Christmas Tree, and with last year, we realise how important this Christmas is. In November we invited our industry friends and colleagues to have a catch up at our festive meet-up under our Christmas Tree. The event was well received by everyone, and we enjoyed catching up after a long time away from face to face events.

Profits from our commercial activity are invested by the Millennium Point Charitable Trust into projects, events and initiatives which support the growth of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and education in the West Midlands.

Every year, the Millennium Point Charitable Trust Small Grants programme gives out grants of up to £20,000 to support science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) education projects in the West Midlands. We have funded many different projects across all areas of STEM supporting learning development for young students.

Here is another great example of the type of work we do and shows the power of what the grants funding can achieve for STEM organisations.

Who is Ark Tindal Primary?

Ark Tindal is a KS2 and 2 primary school for children aged 3-11 in Balsall Heath, Birmingham. They are part of the Ark Schools Network following transition in 2021.

Why did they apply for a Millennium Point grants?

The primary school had a disused outdoor space and wanted to enhance their STEM curriculum by transforming it. The area would support biology sessions of different topics from identifying plants to studying bug habitats and pond dipping.

The updated space would allow students to plan different types of scientific methods and processes to answer questions.. The science area would have a renewable zone where the children can learn about the environment.

What impact has the project made?

With the help of the grant the science area has enhanced the key learning in KS1 and 2 STEM subjects. Using the creative space students can see the practical applications of what they learn in the classroom.

Aesthetically, it gives the school a vibrant outdoor green space for students to explore.  Ark Tindal students are also given the chance to learn the importance of sustainability and the environment around them. Some students wouldn’t have access to this type of space otherwise.

Ark Tindal Primary were ‘delighted’

Ark Tindal Primary said ‘We are delighted to have been awarded the Millennium Point Charitable Trust grant, as it will enable us to enrich the lives of our pupils through our vision of a STEM is driven learning environment.  Over time, we envisage this benefitting the community as a whole and not just pupils attending our school.  Throughout our curriculum, which is tailored to our pupils and their life experiences both now and in the future, we want them to understand that renewable energy and energy conservation is becoming increasingly important in everyday life as fossil fuel reserves start to wane.  Through our science garden, we will entrench knowledge and appreciation of sustainable living in our pupils from an early age.’

Grants are now open!

Educators, Charities and Not-for-Profits within the West Midlands Combined Authority can apply for up to £20,000 from Millennium Point to fund their STEM activity. Over the past five years, the Millennium Point Charitable Trust has awarded over £2 million to charities, not-for-profits, community groups and schools to further STEM education.

Applications for the STEM Grant Programme are now open and set to close at 5pm on 3rd December 2021. You can apply on our website here.
